WHAT’S TRENDING: WANDERLUST

Does the warmer weather of the spring and summer months give you a case of Wanderlust? If so, you’re not alone! Whether you have big travel plans in your future or you’re still working on building that travel fund, you can explore the world—in fabric form—through the collections included in this edition of “What’s Trending.” We’re featuring new and recent fabrics whose designs are inspired by cities, states, countries, and cultures…both stateside and abroad!

NORTHWEST FROM RILEY BLAKE DESIGNS

In addition to current collections Utah and Oregon, Riley Blake is also releasing the new Northwest collection (shipping in May), which features design motifs celebrating the Northwest United States. Included are whales, otters, salmon, other wildlife, and state-specific Washington and Alaska prints featuring famous natural and manmade landmarks from each state.

STATE PANELS FROM WINDHAM FABRICS

These state-themed panel prints from designer Sara Franklin feature watercolor designs of Texas, Wisconsin, California, New Hampshire, Oregon, New York, Florida, and Illinois, each with beautifully rendered elements representative of the state.

Similarly, the State Cotton fabrics by Sophia Santander feature fun toss prints for four states: Florida, Texas, Alaska, and California.

ALASKA NATIONAL PARKS FROM P&B TEXTILES

This new collection from Alaskan artist Jon Van Zyle explores eight different parks, plus Alaskan flora and fauna, and a classic postcard print. In addition to the National Parks collection, Van Zyle has two additional Alaska-themed lines with P&B: Field Notes and Alaska’s Artist John Van Zyle.

TUCSON FROM ELIZABETH’S STUDIO

Heading much further south to Arizona, Elizabeth’s Studio recently added several new prints to its Tucson collection, including flannel versions of Navajo-blanket-inspired prints and new colors of the collection’s beaded flower print. Other designs included in the Tucson collection include a variety of Native American motifs and textile designs.

WEST PALM FROM ART GALLERY FABRICS

Inspired by the sights and colors of the Florida coast, the West Palm collection from designer Katie Skoog features a candy-hued mix of palms, flamingos, and other “Beach Treasures” among its prints. West Palm also includes botanical, plaid, and mosaic designs in warm, beachy tones.

WAIKIKI COTTON POPLIN FROM ROBERT KAUFMAN FABRICS

This recent collection of eight fabrics features simple-yet-classic Hawaiian imagery—palms, pineapples, and hibiscus—in subtle shades of blue, red, green, and khaki.

Also new from Robert Kaufman is Makaha Nights, a Hawaiian-themed floral collection featuring elegant hibiscus and palm leaf prints.

BRITANNIA FROM LEWIS & IRENE

Featuring motifs from across the pond, this recent collection pays tribute to the sights and sounds of London, including Big Ben, Westminster Palace, the Queen’s Guard, and other royal imagery. The collection also includes a heart-shaped take on the Union Jack.

OOH LA LA FROM WINDHAM FABRICS

This upcoming collection (shipping in August 2019) from designer Caroly Gavin of Ecojot was inspired by her love of poodles, Vespas, and “all things French". Ooh La La features Parisian city scenes and the Eiffel Tower, plus adorable poodles, cats in berets (because…why not?), and brightly hued flowers.

PORTOFINO FROM PAINTBRUSH STUDIO FABRICS

Inspired by the picturesque Italian fishing village, this collection from designer Ro Gregg features gorgeous painterly prints capturing scenes from Portofino—sailboats, fishing vessels, and rows of cliffside cottages. Portofino also includes coordinating textural abstract prints.

Another collection from designer Ro Gregg, Croatia captures imagery from the country’s Adriatic coast, its countryside, and charming villages. Other prints include botanicals, tile patterns, and even donkeys.

CUSCO FROM CAMELOT FABRICS

This upcoming collection takes its name from the city and UNESCO World Heritage Site in southeastern Peru—once the historic capital of the Inca Empire. Cusco features coca leaves, “etched” and striped geometrics, “Flower of Life” prints, and—naturally—the indigenous llama. The collection’s natural color palette includes soft mustard, beige, and greys.

NEW WAX PRINTS FROM YARA AFRICAN FABRICS

All of Yara’s fabrics feature rich African patterns and colors, including woven mud cloth, batik, tie-dye, brocade, and wax print. Yara recently added several new prints to its wax-print fabric line, each of which features organic shapes and designs in a simple deep-blue-and-white color palette.
