WHAT’S TRENDING: FROM QUILT MARKET
What was new and noteworthy at Quilt Market in Houston? Get a look at many of the trends, products, and new exhibitors that caught our eye!
Lo & Behold Stitchery's Model Farm Pattern and Wool Appliqué Heirlooms (C&T Publishing).
Among the 50 new exhibitors at fall Market this year was Lo & Behold Stitchery, whose quilt patterns combine traditional quilt blocks and elements with modern design.
New exhibitor Blythe Girl Designs offers wool appliqué and punchneedle patterns, and designer Mary A. Blythe also authored the recent book, Wool Appliqué Heirlooms (C&T Publishing).
Featherweight Cookie Cutter from Featherweight Shop
There were a wealth of fun and unique items at new exhibitor Featherweight Shop’s booth, including a Servicing Mat featuring a Featherweight schematic and a Featherweight Cookie Cutter.
There’s nothing particularly new or trendy about flowers, but in thinking about designs we saw in abundance at fall Quilt Market, small-scale floral fabrics immediately come to mind.
Daisy Made from Robert Kaufman, Wildflower from Cloud9 Fabrics, Happy Place from Robert Kaufman
The new Wildflower collection (Cloud9 Fabrics) from designer Cassidy Demkov features roses, abstract blossoms, and dainty wildflowers in a cheerful color palette. Wildflower is available on cotton sateen.
True to its name, the Daisy Made collection from Robert Kaufman Fabrics offers daisies in three designs and sizes. And the company’s Happy Place line includes pretty, densely layered flowers among its prints.
Kitty Garden and Flora from Birch Fabrics
Two of the upcoming fabric lines from Birch Fabrics—Kitty Garden and Flora—include prints featuring a foreground of brightly hued flowers against a high-contrast background.
Top to Bottom: Milk & Honey, Petals & Pots, Play Outside, and Flower Show Spring, all from Riley Blake Designs
Among the January 2020 releases from Riley Blake Designs are Milk & Honey by Elea Lutz, Petals & Pots by Gabrielle Neil Design Studio, Play Outside by Gracey Larson, and Flower Show Spring by Liberty Fabrics.
Somerset, Rosalinda, and Delight, all from Michael Miller Fabrics
And pretty little flowers appear in the upcoming Somerset and Rosalinda collections from Michael Miller Fabrics, as well as the new Delight collection designed by Tamara Kate.
Bungalow from Windham Fabrics
Bungalow by Amy Gibson for Windham Fabrics is a charming new collection inspired by the designer’s fondness for old houses, and includes tiny houses, tiny flowers and flower rings, tile, and wallpaper prints.
Meriwether and Spirited from Art Gallery Fabrics
The Meriwether collection from Art Gallery Fabrics features lots of small flora and fauna designs inspired by stitching motifs and folk patterns. And AGF’s new Spirited collection by Sharon Holland features “delicate” florals, geometrics, and spirited horses.
Calico Horses from FreeSpirit, Neddy's Meadow from FreeSpirit, Barnyard from Birch Fabric
Artist/designer Lorraine Turner’s debut fabric collection, Calico Horses from FreeSpirit captures the beauty of horses using movement and bold color. Also from FreeSpirit, Neddy’s Meadow by Snow Leopard Designs was “inspired by a lovely white stallion called Neddy.”
Barnyard by Kristen Balouch for Birch Fabrics features folk-art-inspired painted horses and other barnyard animals. The collection also includes an adorable panel print that can be used to create a Barnyard Playset and Puppets.
Top Left: Colorful Magnetic Snaps from Sassafras Lane, Bottom Left: HomeMade from FreeSpirit,
Right: Happy Together quilt pattern from Sew Kind of Wonderful
Other new products that caught our attention at fall Market include these fun Colorful Magnetic Snaps from Sassafras Lane Designs, the Happy Together quilt pattern from Sew Kind of Wonderful, and the new HomeMade collection by Tula Pink (FreeSpirit), which “pays tribute to the thing that drives us to create with our hands.”
